New hope for fatty liver: stomach procedure may beat diet alone

NCT ID NCT06138821

First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 08, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study tests whether a minimally invasive stomach-shrinking procedure (endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty) combined with lifestyle changes is better than lifestyle changes alone for treating a serious liver condition called MASH in people with obesity. The procedure reduces stomach size by 70% using an FDA-approved device, aiming for lasting weight loss and liver improvement. Researchers will compare liver biopsies and other health measures in 132 adults over 12 months.
