New study aims to uncover hidden kidney disease in rural africa
NCT ID NCT05881447
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study will track 1,200 adults in semi-rural Tanzania to find out how common chronic kidney disease (CKD) is and what factors increase the risk. Participants will have blood and urine tests at the start, after 90 days, and again after one year. The goal is to create better ways to predict and catch CKD early in this region.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could provide better tools to predict and detect chronic kidney disease early in Sub-Saharan Africa.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It will not directly improve health, and results may not apply to other regions.
