NCT ID NCT05725967

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study will follow 5,000 adults who have had endoscopic procedures for weight loss, such as stomach stapling through a scope or gastric balloons. Researchers will track weight, blood pressure, diabetes, and cholesterol for up to 10 years to see how well these procedures work long-term. The goal is to better understand which treatments help people keep weight off and improve related health conditions.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Endoscopic procedures (e.g., sleeve gastroplasty, intragastric balloons, aspiration therapy)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show which endoscopic procedures work best for long-term weight loss and reducing obesity-related health problems like diabetes and high blood pressure.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a controlled trial, so it cannot prove cause and effect. Results may take up to 10 years and depend on participants staying in the study.
