Scientists probe Brain's time cells with scopolamine in epilepsy patients

NCT ID NCT05594017

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This early-phase study investigates how scopolamine, a drug known to affect memory, changes brain activity in people with epilepsy who are already undergoing brain monitoring for seizures. Sixty participants will receive either scopolamine or a placebo and perform memory tasks while their brain signals are recorded. The goal is to understand when and how the drug impacts memory formation and recall, which could shed light on memory disorders.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Scopolamine

What this could lead to

If successful, this study could reveal how certain drugs affect memory processes in the brain, potentially guiding future treatments for memory loss.

What could go wrong

This is a very early, small study (60 participants) focused on understanding brain activity, not testing a treatment. Results may not apply to the general population.
