Chickenpox
MONDO:0005700A contagious childhood disorder caused by the varicella zoster virus. It is transmitted via respiratory secretions and contact with chickenpox blister contents. It presents with a vesicular skin rash, usually associated with fever, headache, and myalgias. The pruritic fluid-filled vesicles occur 10-21 days after exposure and last for 3-4 days. An additional 3-4 days of malaise follows before the affected individual feels better. An individual is contagious 1-2 days prior to the appearance of the blisters until all blisters are crusted over. Generally, healthy individuals recover without complications.

Engineered immune cells plus chickenpox vaccine take on childhood cancers
Disease control OngoingThis early-phase study tests a new treatment for advanced osteosarcoma and neuroblastoma that has not responded to standard therapy. Researchers take a patient's own immune cells (T cells), add a gene to help them recognize and attack cancer cells, and combine them with a chicken…

Can immune cells predict herpesvirus danger in transplant patients?
Knowledge-focused OngoingThis study looks at how the immune system's T cells respond to two common herpesviruses—cytomegalovirus (CMV) and varicella-zoster virus (VZV)—in people who have had a liver transplant. Because transplant recipients take drugs that suppress their immune system to prevent organ re…
