Weight loss before IVF boosts baby chances for overweight women

NCT ID NCT07174817

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study looked at whether a three-month diet and exercise program before IVF could improve live birth rates in overweight and obese women. 197 women were randomly assigned to either the weight loss group or a control group. The goal was to see if losing weight beforehand leads to more successful pregnancies.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

weight loss program (diet and exercise)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show that losing weight before IVF increases the chance of having a baby for overweight and obese women.

What could go wrong

This is a single completed trial with 197 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Weight loss is hard to maintain, and other factors also affect IVF success.
