Super-Sharp brain scanner could revolutionize diagnosis of dementia and cancer

NCT ID NCT07595666

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study compares a new ultra-high resolution PET/CT scanner, the NeuroEXPLORER, with standard clinical PET/CT scanners for imaging the head and neck. Researchers aim to see if the new device provides more detailed images to improve diagnosis of conditions like dementia, Parkinson's disease, brain tumors, and head and neck cancers. About 1,600 participants will receive both scans in one visit, and their images will be compared for accuracy and diagnostic confidence.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to
If successful, this scanner could provide clearer, more detailed images to help doctors diagnose and monitor brain and neck conditions more accurately.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage device comparison study, not a treatment trial. The new scanner may not prove significantly better in practice, and its benefits may be limited to certain conditions.
