New tool aims to fairly assess older adults for kidney transplants

NCT ID NCT07419945

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a kidney transplant-specific comprehensive geriatric assessment (KT-CGA) can improve how older adults (60+) are evaluated for kidney transplants. Fifty participants will either receive the KT-CGA plus usual care or usual care alone. The goal is to see if this approach is feasible and acceptable, and how it affects transplant decisions and quality of life.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Kidney transplant-specific comprehensive geriatric assessment (KT-CGA)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a better way to evaluate older adults for kidney transplants, potentially improving access and outcomes for this age group.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study (50 participants) testing feasibility, not effectiveness. It may not show clear benefits or be too early to change practice.
