Wearable sensor could unmask hidden blood sugar chaos in stomach paralysis
NCT ID NCT06046833
First seen Aug 03, 2026 · Last updated Aug 04, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This pilot study is testing whether a real-time continuous glucose monitor (FreeStyle Libre 3) can reveal differences in blood sugar patterns between people with diabetes who have gastroparesis (delayed stomach emptying) and those without it. About 50 adults with type 1 or type 2 diabetes will wear the sensor, which measures glucose every minute, and drink a nutritional shake to see how their blood sugar responds. The goal is to understand how gastroparesis affects glucose control, which could lead to better management strategies.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- FreeStyle Libre 3 continuous glucose monitoring sensor and a nutritional drink (Boost Plus)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could improve how blood sugar is managed in people with diabetes and gastroparesis, potentially reducing dangerous glucose swings.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small pilot study, so results may not apply to everyone. The sensor and drink may not fully capture real-world conditions, and no treatment is being tested.
