Breakfast or burn? study tests fasted exercise for weight loss
NCT ID NCT07487090
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares two ways of doing aerobic exercise: before eating (fasted) versus after eating (fed). Over 16 weeks, 40 adults with obesity will follow a supervised exercise program. Researchers will measure changes in body fat, blood fats, blood pressure, and appetite hormones to see if fasted exercise leads to better weight loss and heart health.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
aerobic exercise (fasted or fed state)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a simple, cost-free way to boost weight loss and heart health by timing exercise before breakfast.
What could go wrong
This is a small early-phase trial with only 40 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Fasted exercise might also increase appetite, limiting weight loss.
