New therapy aims to help teens at risk for diabetes

Summary

This study tests if Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), which focuses on emotions and mindfulness, can help teens aged 14-17 with obesity improve their quality of life and manage weight to prevent type 2 diabetes. Participants will be randomly assigned to weekly group sessions with lifestyle coaching plus DBT, lifestyle coaching alone, or a control group. The study will measure how well teens stick with the program and changes in body composition and emotional well-being.
