Massive heart biobank aims to unlock secrets of aortic disease
NCT ID NCT02306200
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is creating a large biobank of blood, DNA, plasma, and tissue samples from 15,000 people with and without heart and aortic diseases. Researchers will use this information to better understand conditions like aortic aneurysm, heart failure, and bicuspid aortic valve. The goal is to support future discoveries, not to test a new treatment.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this biobank could help researchers discover genetic or biological markers for heart and aortic diseases, pointing toward better diagnostics or treatments in the future.
What could go wrong
This is an observational biobank study, not a treatment trial. It does not test any therapy, so direct patient benefits are not expected. Results may take years to translate into clinical use.
