New hope for spinal cord injury pain: early calcitonin shows promise

Summary
This study tests whether giving calcitonin early after a spinal cord injury can lower the chance or severity of nerve pain. About 126 adults with recent spinal cord injuries will receive either calcitonin or a placebo, and their pain levels will be tracked for up to a year. The goal is to see if this simple medication can prevent a common and difficult-to-treat complication.
