Can fish oil plus statin shrink artery plaque in diabetes?

NCT ID NCT05365438

First seen May 12, 2026 · Last updated May 12, 2026

Summary

This study looks at whether adding omega-3 (fish oil) to a common cholesterol-lowering statin can reduce plaque buildup in the carotid arteries of people with type 2 diabetes and high cholesterol. About 105 adults will be randomly assigned to receive either atorvastatin plus omega-3 or atorvastatin plus ezetimibe. The main goal is to measure changes in artery wall thickness using 3D ultrasound over time.
