Acute graft versus host disease
MONDO:0020546A syndrome of immunologically mediated tissue damage that may occur following an allogeneic transplant, usually affecting the skin, liver, and GI tract. The onset is usually within one hundred days of transplantation or immunologic manipulation.
Also known as: GVHD, acute, acute graft vs. host disease, fulminant graft versus host disease, graft versus host disease, acute, acute GVHD

New combo aims to tame GVHD after stem cell transplants
Disease control OngoingThis early study tests whether combining a low-dose steroid with the drug ruxolitinib can better control grade II acute graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) after a stem cell transplant. GVHD occurs when donor immune cells attack the recipient's body. The trial includes 30 people wit…

New cell therapy aims to tame deadly transplant complication
Disease control OngoingThis study tests a new treatment called CYP-001 for people who develop a severe immune reaction (graft versus host disease) after a stem cell transplant. About 60 participants will receive either CYP-001 plus standard steroids or a placebo plus steroids. The goal is to see if add…

Stem cell study to prevent transplant complications pulled before start
Disease control TerminatedThis study aimed to see if a special type of stem cell (hAESC) could safely prevent acute graft-versus-host disease in people receiving a stem cell transplant for blood cancer. It was designed for adults at high risk of this complication. However, the study was withdrawn before a…

New cell therapy aims to tame deadly transplant complication in kids
Disease control OngoingThis study tests a new treatment called MC0518 (made from donor cells) in children who have severe graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) after a stem cell transplant and did not get better with steroids. GvHD happens when the donor's immune cells attack the child's body. The trial com…

Can an enzyme shield the gut during transplant recovery?
Disease control OngoingThis study tests an oral enzyme called SYN-004 in adults who have received a stem cell transplant and need intravenous antibiotics for fever. The enzyme is designed to break down antibiotics in the gut, protecting the natural bacteria there. Researchers will check safety, whether…

Can a psoriasis drug stop transplant rejection?
Disease control OngoingThis phase II trial tests whether the drug ustekinumab (Stelara) can prevent acute graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) in 116 adults receiving stem cell transplants for blood cancers. GVHD occurs when donor immune cells attack the patient's body. Ustekinumab aims to calm this immune…

Fish oil infusions tested to tame transplant complication
Disease control ENROLLING_BY_INVITATIONThis study tests whether daily intravenous omega-3 fatty acids (fish oil) can reduce the risk and severity of acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) in 30 adults receiving a stem cell transplant. Participants get omega-3 infusions from before transplant until about 35 days after…

Withdrawn trial sought to protect gut cells in GVHD patients
Disease control TerminatedThis early-phase trial aimed to test whether adding the drug 5-azacytidine (AZA) to standard steroid treatment could protect gut stem cells in patients with gastrointestinal graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), a serious complication after a donor stem cell transplant. The study pla…
