Fish oil infusions tested to tame transplant complication

NCT ID NCT07162688

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether daily intravenous omega-3 fatty acids (fish oil) can reduce the risk and severity of acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) in 30 adults receiving a stem cell transplant. Participants get omega-3 infusions from before transplant until about 35 days after. The main goal is to see if fewer people develop aGVHD within 100 days.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Omega-3 fatty acids (fish oil) given intravenously
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, safe way to lower the risk of a serious complication after stem cell transplant.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 30 people, so results may not apply widely. Omega-3 may not reduce GVHD enough to change standard care.
