Could inducing labor at 39 weeks cut C-Sections in obese moms?
NCT ID NCT04603859
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at whether inducing labor at 39 weeks of pregnancy is better than waiting for labor to start naturally in women with a BMI of 30 or higher. The goal is to see if early induction lowers the chance of needing a C-section. About 1,900 women in Denmark will take part.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
elective induction of labor (procedure)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could show that inducing labor at 39 weeks lowers the need for C-sections in obese women, leading to safer births.
What could go wrong
This is a large trial, but results may not apply to all hospitals or women. Inducing labor can also have risks like longer labor or infection.
