New program aims to cut heart disease risk in young cancer survivors

Summary

This study tested a weight management program for young adult cancer survivors (ages 18-39) who have obesity and are within 5 years of finishing cancer treatment. The program combined healthy eating, physical activity, and symptom management to help reduce cardiovascular disease risk. 38 participants were enrolled to see if the program was feasible and acceptable, and to track changes in weight, blood pressure, cholesterol, and other heart health markers.
