NCT ID NCT05663554
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study planned to test whether a virtual weight control program (WW, formerly Weight Watchers) could help adults with type 2 diabetes and obesity lower their blood sugar levels. Participants would have used the WW SmartPoints system and attended weekly online workshops. However, the study was withdrawn before enrolling anyone, so no data were collected.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
WW virtual weight control program (behavioral intervention using SmartPoints system)
What this could lead to
If it had succeeded, this could have pointed toward a practical, scalable way to help people with type 2 diabetes improve blood sugar control through weight management.
What could go wrong
The study was withdrawn before enrolling any participants, so no results are available. Even if conducted, behavioral programs can have variable adherence and may not work for everyone.
