New blood test could spot sepsis faster, saving lives and antibiotics

NCT ID NCT07203833

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study is looking at whether a protein called vasorin (Vasn) in the blood can help doctors quickly tell the difference between septic shock (caused by infection) and other types of shock (like after heart surgery). Currently, the best test for this is not always accurate. The researchers will measure vasorin levels in 144 intensive care patients and see if it can better guide treatment decisions, such as whether antibiotics are needed. They will also check if vasorin levels can predict which patients are at higher risk of dying within 28 days.
