Can a Gut-Derived supplement protect muscle while you shed pounds?
NCT ID NCT07377136
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether taking Urolithin A daily for 6 months helps adults with obesity lose weight while keeping muscle mass and improving metabolism. About 100 participants aged 30-60 with a BMI over 30 will follow a structured diet and sleep program, with half receiving the supplement and half a placebo. Researchers will measure body composition, muscle strength, and blood markers to see if Urolithin A offers added benefits.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Urolithin A (a dietary supplement derived from gut bacteria)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a supplement that helps people with obesity lose weight while keeping muscle and improving metabolism.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage, single-center trial with only 100 participants. The supplement may not show significant benefits over placebo, and results may not apply to everyone.
