Scientists probe Fat-Immune link in rare and common metabolic diseases

NCT ID NCT01784289

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This completed study looked at 126 people with different fat distribution patterns—including those with lipodystrophy (abnormal fat loss or distribution), obesity, and normal weight—to understand how fat tissue relates to insulin resistance and immune signals. Researchers measured blood levels of interleukin-7 and other immune markers, along with fat mass using scans. The goal was to gather knowledge, not to test a treatment, so no direct benefit for participants was expected.
