First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This study tests whether giving tranexamic acid (a drug that helps blood clot) before major gastrointestinal surgery can lower the chance of delirium—sudden confusion and disorientation—after the operation. The trial includes 826 adults aged 70 or older or with other health risks. Researchers believe the drug may reduce brain inflammation that leads to delirium.
