First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study will test whether tirzepatide (Mounjaro), a drug used for diabetes and weight loss, can help people with obesity-related heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). Researchers will measure changes in blood volume and body fat in 50 participants over 15 months. The goal is to understand how tirzepatide might improve heart function.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Tirzepatide (Mounjaro)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that tirzepatide improves heart failure symptoms in people with obesity by lowering blood volume, pointing toward a new treatment approach.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase study with only 50 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. It focuses on measuring changes in blood volume, not directly on symptoms or survival.
