First seen Jan 27, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This study tested a new Spanish-language electronic tool called TAPS-ESP to screen for tobacco, alcohol, prescription drug, and illicit substance use in primary care clinics. About 1,000 Spanish-speaking adults took part to see how well the tool identifies substance use problems compared to a detailed diagnostic interview. The goal is to provide a simple, accurate way for doctors to catch substance use early and connect patients to help.
