Smartwatch could read your pain: new study tests skin signals for arthritis

NCT ID NCT06701461

First seen Mar 11, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 10 times

Summary

This small pilot study will test whether a smartwatch can measure pain in people with knee osteoarthritis by tracking tiny electrical changes in their skin. Fifteen participants will wear the watch while doing simple tasks like walking and standing up from a chair. The goal is to see if this method works well enough to use in larger studies, not to treat or cure the condition.
