First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This pilot study tests whether getting extra sleep (sleep banking) before knee or hip replacement surgery can help reduce chronic pain and the need for painkillers after the operation. Researchers will enroll 22 adults aged 18-74 scheduled for joint replacement at a Navy medical center. Participants will be asked to increase their sleep in the two weeks before surgery, and their pain levels and opioid use will be tracked afterward.
