Can schools catch teen mental health struggles before they escalate?
NCT ID NCT07818603
First seen Sep 14, 2026 · Last updated Sep 15, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
Researchers are testing a school-based program that screens adolescents for anxiety, depression, and other mental health concerns, then offers stepped support. Students at eight schools in Spain complete regular mental health questionnaires. Based on their results, they receive digital self-help materials, small-group sessions, or a referral to a mental health professional. The study measures whether this approach improves engagement with care and reduces symptoms over time.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- a school-based program combining mental health screening, psychoeducation, digital self-help tools, and referral to professionals
- What this could lead to
- If it works, schools could adopt a structured way to spot mental health struggles early and connect students to help before problems worsen.
- What could go wrong
- The program may not reach enough students or may fail to improve outcomes. Screening can also miss cases or create demand that schools cannot meet.
