New study: could Chemo-Radiation replace surgery for rectal cancer?

NCT ID NCT06758830

First seen May 13, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a combination of chemotherapy and radiation (total neoadjuvant therapy) can help about half of rectal cancer patients avoid surgery and keep their rectum. Participants who respond well will be monitored closely instead of having surgery. The study will compare their quality of life, side effects, and survival to those who have surgery first. It involves 400 adults with early-stage rectal cancer.
