Can a phone app help young people with diabetes control blood sugar?

NCT ID NCT06375460

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a smartphone app that shows real-time blood sugar and activity data can help adolescents and young adults with type 2 diabetes improve their glucose control. Participants use a continuous glucose monitor and Fitbit, and some receive prompts to reflect on their data and plan diet or exercise. The trial lasts 90 days with an additional 90-day follow-up, and includes 100 participants.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Focused App Prompt (behavioral intervention via smartphone app)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a simple, app-based way to help young people with type 2 diabetes better manage their blood sugar day-to-day.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial (100 participants) testing a behavioral tool, not a drug. The app may not lead to lasting improvements, and results may not apply to everyone with type 2 diabetes.
