Could a single pill before kidney stone surgery cut opioid use?
NCT ID NCT04122196
First seen Nov 12, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 25 times
Summary
This study tested whether giving a single dose of pregabalin (a nerve pain medication) about an hour before kidney stone surgery could reduce pain and the need for opioid painkillers afterward. 118 adults having ureteroscopy with a ureteral stent were randomly assigned to receive either pregabalin or a placebo. Researchers then measured pain scores and how much opioid medication patients used after surgery.
