New radiation approach targets cancer in the brain and spine

NCT ID NCT06910761

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This Phase II trial tests whether a precise type of radiation called photon VMAT craniospinal irradiation can help people with breast or lung cancer that has spread to the fluid and lining around the brain and spinal cord. About 35 adults with this condition will receive radiation to the entire brain and spine. Researchers will measure how long the cancer stays under control in the central nervous system and how patients' quality of life changes.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
photon volumetric modulated arc radiotherapy (VMAT) craniospinal irradiation
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide an effective radiation-based treatment option for cancer that has spread to the fluid and lining around the brain and spinal cord.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 35 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Radiation to the brain and spine can cause side effects like fatigue, nausea, and neurological symptoms.
