New study to see if ventilator settings worsen blood congestion in ARDS

NCT ID NCT07452952

First seen Mar 09, 2026 · Last updated Jun 16, 2026 · Updated 20 times

Summary

This study looks at how changing the pressure in a ventilator affects blood flow congestion in the abdomen of people with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Researchers will use ultrasound to grade congestion in the liver, kidneys, and portal vein as absent, moderate, or severe. The goal is to understand the relationship between ventilator settings and blood flow, not to provide a treatment. About 30 adults on ventilators in intensive care will take part.
