New program aims to ease pain and opioid risks for veterans transitioning to civilian life

Summary

This study tests whether extra support for case managers helps veterans leaving the military better manage pain and reduce risky substance use. About 1,800 veterans who recently left service and have a back, neck, knee, or shoulder condition will take part. The program includes screening, brief counseling, and referrals to non-drug pain treatments.
