Brain scans and Decision-Making tasks aim to uncover OCD's hidden markers

NCT ID NCT03313622

First seen Jun 30, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks for brain-based markers (biomarkers) of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) in people with severe, hard-to-treat symptoms. Participants complete decision-making tasks and are exposed to personal OCD triggers while their brain activity is recorded with EEG and their facial reactions are filmed. The goal is to better understand the brain circuits involved in OCD, which could eventually lead to more personalized treatments.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could identify measurable brain signals linked to OCD symptoms, paving the way for more targeted treatments.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage observational study focused on discovery, not treatment. It may not yield clear or generalizable biomarkers.
