First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This phase 2b trial tests a weekly oral tablet called ecnoglutide (VRB-101) for weight loss in 206 adults with obesity or overweight plus weight-related health problems. Participants receive either the drug or a placebo for several weeks. The main goal is to see how much body weight they lose on average.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Ecnoglutide (VRB-101), a weekly oral tablet
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a convenient weekly pill for significant weight loss in people with obesity or overweight and related health issues.
What could go wrong
This is a mid-stage trial with only 206 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The drug may cause side effects or fail to show meaningful weight loss compared to placebo.
