Amniotic fluid shots aim to heal stubborn leg wounds
NCT ID NCT04647240
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This Phase 2 study tests whether weekly injections of MTX-001, a substance made from human amniotic fluid, can help heal venous stasis ulcers that haven't improved after at least 4 weeks of standard care. About 80 adults aged 18 to 90 with non-infected leg ulcers will receive either MTX-001 or a placebo. Researchers will track wound size reduction, complete closure, and pain changes over time.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- MTX-001 (human amniotic fluid)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a new treatment option for people with chronic venous leg ulcers that don't heal with standard care.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early Phase 2 trial with only 80 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The treatment involves weekly injections, and safety and effectiveness are still being studied.
