Battle of the white spot busters: paste vs. resin for Post-Braces cavities

NCT ID NCT05733676

First seen Jun 30, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This trial compares two treatments for white spot lesions—early cavities that appear as milky-white marks on front teeth after braces. One treatment uses a special paste (MI Paste Plus) combined with etching, while the other uses a resin infiltration technique (Icon). The study involves 62 people aged 12–21 who have at least one white spot after orthodontic treatment. Researchers will track how well each treatment stops the lesion from progressing and improves its appearance over 18 months.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

MI Paste Plus (casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate with fluoride) and resin infiltration (Icon)

What this could lead to

If one treatment proves clearly better, dentists may have a more effective, esthetic option to reverse early cavities after braces, reducing the need for fillings.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 62 participants. Results may not apply to everyone, and long-term effects beyond 18 months are not studied.
