Summary
This study looks at how fixed versus removable orthodontic retainers influence the types of bacteria living in the gum pockets and overall gum health. Ten adults who have finished braces will be split into two groups: one gets a fixed retainer bonded to the back of the teeth, the other gets a clear removable retainer worn 22 hours a day. Researchers will collect plaque samples and measure gum bleeding at five visits over six months to see if one retainer type leads to healthier gums and a better bacterial balance.
