Silver-Coated braces aim to stop decay before it starts
NCT ID NCT07707336
First seen Jul 16, 2026 · Last updated Jul 17, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether orthodontic brackets coated with silver nanoparticles can prevent enamel demineralization—the earliest stage of tooth decay—in people getting fixed braces. Sixteen participants scheduled for premolar extractions as part of their orthodontic treatment will receive both coated and standard brackets on different teeth. After one month, the extracted teeth are examined to compare enamel health around each bracket type.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Silver nanoparticle-coated stainless steel orthodontic brackets
- What this could lead to
- If effective, these brackets could offer a simple way to prevent white spots and early decay during orthodontic treatment, reducing the need for later fillings.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very small, early-stage study with only 16 participants and a short one-month follow-up. Results may not apply to all patients or predict long-term benefits.
