Blood tests may replace painful liver biopsies for diabetes patients
NCT ID NCT04232293
First seen Nov 18, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 23 times
Summary
This study looked at whether two blood tests, eLIFT and FibroMeter, can accurately detect advanced liver fibrosis (scarring) in people with type 2 diabetes. The researchers compared these blood tests to a specialized ultrasound (FibroScan) and, in some cases, liver biopsy. The goal was to find a less invasive way to screen for liver damage in this high-risk group.
