Could a simple Anti-Inflammatory drug save lives after aortic tear?
NCT ID NCT06968806
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This phase 3 trial tests whether the anti-inflammatory drug ketorolac can improve outcomes in 360 people undergoing emergency surgery for a life-threatening aortic dissection. Participants receive either ketorolac or a placebo before and after surgery, alongside standard care. Researchers will track complications, organ function, and survival for up to 90 days.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
ketorolac (an anti-inflammatory painkiller)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a simple, low-cost way to reduce serious complications and improve survival after emergency aortic dissection surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a single-center trial with 360 patients, so results may not apply broadly. Ketorolac can increase bleeding risk, which is especially concerning in this surgical setting.
