Could a common immune treatment help preemies breathe easier?
NCT ID NCT06925360
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This phase 2 trial tests whether intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) can treat bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), a chronic lung disease in premature infants. Twenty babies born between 25 and 30 weeks will receive IVIG infusions over five days. Researchers will check if the treatment reduces the severity of BPD and shortens the need for breathing support.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a treatment that reduces lung damage and breathing problems in premature babies with bronchopulmonary dysplasia.
What could go wrong
This is a very early, small trial with only 20 babies, so results may not be conclusive. IVIG can cause side effects like allergic reactions or kidney issues, and the treatment may not improve outcomes.
