Fasting every other day may supercharge your Heart's fuel
NCT ID NCT05181267
First seen May 01, 2026 · Last updated May 10, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study looked at whether 3 weeks of alternate-day fasting helps the heart use a special fuel called ketones more efficiently compared to a typical Western diet. Sixteen adults aged 55-70 with obesity and insulin resistance underwent PET scans and lab tests after each diet period. The goal was to understand how fasting might protect the heart and improve metabolism, not to test a treatment or cure.
