Heart pressure check during common procedure could unmask hidden heart failure

NCT ID NCT07594886

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at whether measuring blood pressure inside the heart's left upper chamber during a procedure for atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat) can spot patients with hidden heart failure. If the pressure is high, patients get a heart failure checkup and medication review within 24 hours. The study compares their outcomes to similar patients who received usual care, tracking medication use, heart function, and hospitalizations over three years.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Structured heart failure consultation and medication optimization triggered by elevated left atrial pressure during atrial fibrillation ablation

What this could lead to

If it works, this approach could help identify hidden heart failure during a common heart procedure and start treatment earlier, potentially improving heart function and reducing hospitalizations.

What could go wrong

This is a relatively early study (300 participants) and the intervention is a care pathway, not a new drug. Results may not apply to all patients, and the benefit over standard care is uncertain.
