Could poop transplants ease cancer drug side effects?

Summary

This study aims to understand why some cancer patients develop severe diarrhea and colon inflammation (colitis) while taking powerful immunotherapy drugs called immune checkpoint inhibitors. Researchers will collect stool, blood, and tissue samples from 800 patients with melanoma, lung, or other cancers to analyze their gut bacteria. For a small group of patients with severe, hard-to-treat symptoms, the study will also test the safety and effects of a fecal microbiota transplant (FMT), which transfers healthy gut bacteria from a donor.
