NCT ID NCT05017571
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This completed Phase 2 trial tested whether colchicine, an anti-inflammatory drug, can improve insulin resistance in 152 adults and adolescents with obesity. Participants took either colchicine or a placebo daily for 12 weeks. The study measured changes in insulin resistance and inflammation markers to see if reducing inflammation could improve metabolism.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
colchicine
What this could lead to
If successful, this could point toward a new way to improve metabolism and reduce diabetes risk in people with obesity by targeting inflammation.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial. The results may not be strong enough to change practice, and colchicine can cause side effects like stomach upset.
