Can a wearable glucose sensor help young people with prediabetes turn things around?
NCT ID NCT05505565
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at whether using a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) alongside standard nutrition and activity advice can improve metabolic health in young people aged 11 and older who have prediabetes and are overweight. Participants wear the CGM intermittently to see how daily activities affect their blood sugar. The study measures changes in blood sugar control (HbA1c) and insulin resistance over six months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Abbott Freestyle Libre 2 continuous glucose monitor
What this could lead to
If successful, this approach could offer a practical tool to help young people with prediabetes better manage their condition and prevent progression to type 2 diabetes.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study (54 participants) focused on feasibility and short-term changes, so results may not apply broadly. The device itself is not a treatment and carries minor risks like skin irritation.
