Smart patch tracks blood sugar for homebound diabetes patients

NCT ID NCT05880810

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tests whether a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) helps control blood sugar better than standard finger-stick checks for people with diabetes who are recovering at home through Mayo Clinic's Advanced Care at Home program. About 100 participants will use the Dexcom G6 PRO, which sends real-time glucose data to a monitoring center. The goal is to see if this approach improves time in a healthy blood sugar range and reduces dangerous lows.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Continuous Glucose Monitor (Dexcom G6 PRO)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show that remote monitoring of blood sugar helps people with diabetes manage their condition better while recovering at home.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study (100 participants) focused on feasibility, not a large-scale trial. The device may not work well for all patients, and results may not apply to those with severe complications.
