NCT ID NCT06913647

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tests whether canagliflozin, a diabetes drug, can improve fluid removal and reduce scarring in people on peritoneal dialysis for kidney failure. Thirty adults will receive either the drug or a placebo for 26 weeks, then switch. The goal is to see if the drug helps the dialysis membrane work better and stay healthier.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Canagliflozin (Invokana) 300 mg tablet

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a way to make peritoneal dialysis more effective and slow damage to the lining of the belly.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase proof-of-concept trial with only 30 participants. The drug may not improve dialysis outcomes or could cause side effects like ketoacidosis.
